Seaside 40th Birthday Soiree at Hotel Del Coronado

What's a perfect way to celebrate the end of summer? Hosting a milestone 40th birthday by the sea for the one you love most! As founder of Sweet Paper Shop, I spend most of my days (and nights) planning, designing and creating. Since it's my job, it may seem an easy task to do the same for my husband's 40th. Admittedly I felt some self-induced pressure to create a stunning event. I initially suggested we get on a plane for a quick romantic escape. Despite my cajoling for an out of town getaway, what he wanted most was the company of close family at one of his favorite local spots. So instead of jetting off, our families came to us from near and far for an intimate birthday weekend at the historic Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. It was the perfect venue for a seaside soiree. Our guests enjoyed sunset dinner and S'mores on the Beach followed the next morning by Sunday Brunch in the Crown Room. The Hotel Del does S'mores right with personalized bonfire service. The attentive staff keep the fire going all night and provide chairs and blankets. No clean up needed! Picnic boxes, champagne toast, hot dog roast, Jack Johnson tunes, beach toys for the little ones, nautical favors and chocolate bars were some of the details inspired by the seaside theme. For this big 4-0, there was no proverbial hill or wearing of black. The birthday boy wore his favorite navy blue gingham and a smile on his face, happy to be surrounded by a few of his favorite things and people. I had so much fun myself that I only had time to take a few photos to share with you below. I hope you get inspired to create a unique birthday experience for someone you love. Let us know how we can help!
